I began these drawings in the desert where I met Juan, a homeless man living in Palm Springs. He's a portrait painter's dream. I worried he would think I was a stalker, which was true, until we slowly got to know one another. His journey to the U.S., like many others, straddles the personal and political when building a life in a new country.
